My name is Sylvie. After a career consulting in IT, I decided to semi-retire and discover the country I have spent 35 years in, yet never saw. I sold my house and bought a camper van. My son is in college and I am unattached, although I am making new friends every day. I am now traveling stopping here and there for a housesitting and/or petsitting job as an excuse to discover a new part of the US.
As of this initial profile writing, I am in Deland, FL, close to Daytona Beach and have been in this area since Christmas. I would like to make my way to the Western Carolinas to escape the Florida heat and continue North with hot weather behind me. I hope to housesit somewhere in Maine, New Hampshire, and even Ontario or Quebec in the Summer.
I am almost 60 and young enough to enjoy traveling, cooking and sleeping in my van, with my rescue dog: Jade is a 10 year old Staffordshire terrier, a doll who loves the front passenger seat, whether I am driving or not. She is totally socialized, loves people and is playful with other dogs.
While I am new at housesitting as a job, I participated in numerous home exchanges over the years: my house near Washington DC for a French house in the hills of provence in France. That allowed me and my French family to gather in magnificent settings, while my house allowed a French family to discover America and the history-loaded and culture-rich Washington DC area.
I am comfortable with dogs but never owned a cat, although I don't mind them if they don't trigger a runny nose (not all do). As for plants, the best I can do is provide you with pictures of my garden in Alexandria.
I am naturally open-minded and actually enjoy differences among people. I am mindful of culture and comfortable taking care of someone else's home. This was reinforced by the home exchanges where while I enjoyed staying in a different home in France, a family was enjoying my own home!
